Local e-commerce faces information security

HCMC – This year is seeing an explosion of Vietnam’s e-commerce against the background of traditional trading but industry development is facing the risk of information loss, according to a seminar organized by the Vietnam Software Association (Vinasa) and the southern office of the Vietnam e-commerce Association (VECOM).
Nguyen Ngoc Dung, VECOM’s southern region spokesperson, said that local e-commerce had developed at a quick tempo despite barriers like payment methods but the development was facing an information security issue.
Phung Hai, head of the Network Security and System Division of Vinasa cum marketing director of MiSoft Co. Ltd., said information security was a hard challenge for enterprises as well as customers in transaction procedures because in Vietnam, hackers were becoming more sophisticated.
According to Hai, Vietnam is a heaven for hackers. Click Forensic, the industry leader in scoring, auditing and improving traffic quality management, reported that Vietnam ranked first among countries which had fraud click in the second quarter of this year. Vietnam’s fraud clicks were up to 48.3%.
Along with fraud clicks, the popular Wi-Fi in public places is stimulating hackers to steal personal information from credit cards. In Vietnam, international credit card information is often stolen.
Hai also said that mobile devices were rapidly growing in the country and that Vietnam had 100 million mobile phones. Due to the high mobile user rate, hackers attack mobile devices and send fraud messages to users.
Hai said that hackers now attacked customers, replacing enterprises who supply e-commerce services. Normally, they use malware to raid customers’ PCs to steal information. Hackers also steal personal accounts by Wi-Fi at public locations or create websites which imitate the original websites. In addition, hackers use SSL Strip to illegally access personal accounts.
To change the situation, Hai advised customers to be vigilant before declaring information at websites.
“Enterprises that provide e-commerce services should enhance security and use the most effective protection to ensure security for their websites,” he said.
