HCMC, HANOI – The fourth GSM mobile carrier Vietnamobile on Thursday launched its Mobile Internet service allowing users to access the Internet at any time and anywhere, becoming the sixth mobile Internet service provider.
To use the service, subscribers can use a USB Modem device to access Internet via their handsets or laptops. With Enhance Data Rates for GSM
Revolution technology, the service allows users to access Internet at 236.8 kps.
Using the device, customers can simultaneously log on to the Internet and send/receive SMS messages while still being able to make computer-based voice calls without fear of disruption or disconnection.
Nguyen Xuan Quan, vice president of Vietnamobile, said at the launch of the service in HCMC on Thursday that the function was considered as the biggest advantage of Vietnamobile. The service was also launched on the same day in Hanoi.
According to Quan, on the occasion of the service launching, Vietnamobile offers USB Modem at VND800,000 apiece.
On the occasion, the mobile carrier offers a highly flexible Flexi Data package for clients who have high demand for Internet services. Clients can choose different packages from low to high depending on their demand.
Vietnamobile, earlier known as HT Mobile, is a joint venture between Hanoi Telecom and Hong Kong-based Hutchison Telecommunication, making its first public appearance in 2007.
The new brand Vietnamobile debuted in April this year after it completed the conversion of technology from CDMA to GSM, making it the country’s fourth GSM mobile services provider after MobiFone, Vinaphone and Viettel. The telecom provider is identifiable by the first three digits of 092.
The operator invested an additional US$150 million on top of its initial capital pledges of US$650 million last year in the technology conversion.
