HCMC - Online Library Community Network (Olicon), a model connecting libraries of universities countrywide, will begin formal operations on February 1.
Members will contribute their own information sources and pay dues to maintain this online library. Initial capital is a
t VND500 million.
Members must ensure all copyrights and Olicon commits to document security and copyrights of the information.
“Olicon users are students, teachers, postgraduates or dependent researchers,” Doan Hong Nghia, chairman of IES enterprise which supported the online library, told the Daily at the Olicon announcement ceremony last week.
Members share intellectual sources on lessons, exercises and e-books for students on this community network if their school library is a participant of Olicon, Nghia added.
About 20 universities and colleges have registered with Olicon.
Also at the function, SplendID Technology Co. introduced Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), a solution to manage libraries easily. RFID will replace the current bar code technology in the future.
RFID reader is a device used to interrogate an RFID tag, a microchip combined with an antenna to be attached to an object to be tracked. The reader has an antenna emitting radio waves. The tag responds by sending back its data.
Nguyen Trong Vu, company general director, told the Daily, “This solution prevents fakes and saves more information thanks to memory cards and controls a large number of books easily.”
January 30 is the deadline for schools nationwide to register for Olicon.
