Chef Martin Yan: Never stop learning
Television celebrity chef, Martin Yan, visited the World Food Festival in Vung Tau and performed cooking in front of thousands of visitors last week. Yan, whose favorite saying is “If Yan can cook, so can you,” is famous for the cooking show Yan Can Cook that features recipes of stir-fries and other Chinese dishes.
The Daily spoke with him briefly at the festival.
Do you like to be called the King Chef, the husband who cooks?
The reason I married my wife is that I want to cook for her every day; not because I like cooking better or can cook faster than her. You should have passion in whatever you do and you will succeed. Nobody is a king because you never stop learning. You must improve your “empire”, learn from other people even when you are a professional in any field. So, just call me Martin Yan.
What do you think about the World Food Festival?
It is a good initiative because food has no boundaries. Food brings people come together and is a general language. The World Food Festival is a good opportunity for many countries worldwide to learn each country’s cuisine and culture.
What do you think of Vietnamese food?
I love Vietnamese food and I have spent several days eating Vietnamese food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Vietnamese recipes are good for your health. I will have a show here and in that show I will teach people how to cook good dishes from the ingredients available in Vietnam; and in the future I will introduce these dishes to the rest of the world.
