An automatic turtle boat that protects the environment and a one wheeled car have won a contest for creative kids organized by Honda Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Training.
Nguyen Mai Hang from Hanoi won the first grade to the third grade category with her turtle idea while Mai Thi Thanh Minh from Binh Dinh Province won the fourth grade to the fifth grade category with her one wheeled car.
The contest aimed to create a playground for elementary pupils to show their creativity.
The organizing committee chose six outstanding pupils from the 28 contestants in the final round to grant prizes of trips to Japan and scholarships.
Other prize winners were Nguyen Thi Nguyet Hang from Nghe An Province for a anti global warming car, Dang Le Thu Hien from Danang City for a cable car for pedestrians, Nguyen Tien Cuong from Binh Duong Province who invented a new toilet and Bui Long Phuc from Hanoi who designed a machine to make fresh-water.
The judging panel chose the winners on their originality, the use of materials and the way they presented their inventions. The kids made models using recycled paper boxes, plastic cups and ice-cream sticks.
The contest originated in 2002 in Japan and has run for three consecutive years in Vietnam. This year it attracted 115,577 entries from pupils nationwide.
