HCMC-based Yola Institute in District 1 on Tuesday launched its Yola English Junior program which promises to bring learners who are all set to study abroad content-based instruction (CBI).
CBI which has been widely applied in the U.S. and Canada is geared to provide second-language learners instruction in content and language.
Yola English Junior is based on Milestones and Keystones assessments from the U.S. for foreign students. It has been adjusted to fit in with Vietnamese students aged between 10 and 15 to not only strengthen their four English skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) but also their abilities to learn other subjects like mathematics, natural sciences, literature and arts in English.
Furthermore, students are equipped with brain-storming skills, creativity, research, presentation and essay writing at class activities to prepare for their studying environment abroad.
The institute has spent the last 12 months conducting experiments for the new program on its students prior to the launch of Yola English Junior and has gained some success.
Three 1998-born students from Yola Institute who netted sky high scores of TOEFL Junior granted by the U.S. Educational Testing Service (ETS) are Van Trong Nghiem from American International School: 885/900, Nguyen Bich Ngoc from Hai Ba Trung Secondary School: 875/900 and Nguyen Hoang Quan from Hai Ba Trung Secondary School: 835/900.
Yola English Junior has four levels divided into eight courses for students to choose from. A course which is from three to six months is priced from US$300 to US$500. The institute will offer 20% off for learners registering Yola English Junior program from now until June 6.
Yola Institute was established in 2009 by a group of students studying abroad including Pham Anh Khoa, founder of VietAbroader, a networking site of over 23,000 students studying in the U.S. and a graduate of Bates College with a double degree in economics and international relations; Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tu who graduated from Stanford University and Truong Pham Hoai Chung from Williams University, among others.
Both local and foreign teachers at the institute graduated from leading universities like Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University, Brown University, London School of Economics & Political Science and University of Melbourne.
It has English programs for elementary and secondary students and other Yola Test Prep programs to prepare students to achieve top results at TOEFL, SAT, IELTS and GMAT. Additionally, the institute has a consulting service for students to apply to universities in the U.S., the U.K and Australia.
