Le Xuan Hang, a teacher of Tan Hao Secondary School, Giong Trom District, Ben Tre Province, overcame over 2,000 competitors and won first prize of the contest The World’s Teachers with Cambridge ESOL of the academic year 2009 – 2010.
With a 150 word briefing completed in half an hour, she made an efficient presentation on the effectiveness and usefulness teachers gain after participating in courses to improve professional English skills.
Hang was one of five excellent teachers who won the first prize of the contest held by University of Cambridge English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL) Examinations. The others four are from Argentina, Poland, Taiwan and Kazakhstan.
Hang will receive a scholarship for a two-week course at Bell International Institute this July and also be supported with living expenses during two weeks at Homerton College under Cambridge University in the UK with the total cost of 800 pounds.
Speaking to the Daily on the phone last week, she couldn’t hide her happiness: “I feel so surprised and happy when winning this prize after 10 years teaching English at a rural school.”
The course is also a chance for international teachers to discuss teaching methods with each other in general and really a good opportunity for me to communicate with native speakers in particular, the 32-year-old teacher added.
The competition, which started in the middle of January, is for elementary, secondary and high school teachers who need English skills equal to the First Certificate in English of Cambridge ESOL.
Beside the five first prizes that awarded by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, one hundred runner-up prizes of English teaching books were awarded to the first 100 essays sent to the organizer via www.schools.cambridgeesol.org.
