Riders gear up for Saigon Cyclo Challenge

The 12th Saigon Cyclo Challenge organized by Saigon Children’s Charity (SCC) will be held at the Crescent Promenade in HCMC’s District 7 at 8:30 a.m. on March 10.
The cyclo race, to raise funds for disadvantaged children in southern regions, will be open to the event’s gold sponsors and SCC members only.
The race will come in the form of a relay race with four riders in each team, two teams racing at the one time with the four fastest teams qualifying for two semi-finals with the two winners contesting the final.
Also ‘Cyclo Deco’ will see each gold sponsor decorate a cyclo to be displayed outside the Crescent Mall from Sunday until March 10.
A committee consisting of children from SCC’s Thang Long school will pick the winner.
Organizers expect to raise VND735 million and attract over 1,000 people at its free-entrance family day where children and their parents can find a large bouncy castle, magic tricks, sports and educational games.
“I took part in the Cyclo Challenge in 2005 and my team lost due to my crash. This is a great event for team-building and doing something meaningful to help children in need,’ said Jamie Rossall, country manager of Crown, one of the gold sponsors.
Around 90% of funds raised from the event will go directly to the SCC’s children’s program. Every year, SCC helps 3,500 children through educating kids in poverty and those who are disabled or vulnerable by building schools and providing scholarships and vocational training.
