After the success of the first vertical race in Vietnam in the city last year, this year’s competition will take place at Landmark 72 in Hanoi in late September under arrangement of Hong Kong’s Sporting Republic.

The vertical run is expected to attract the participation of 500 professional and amateur athletes, who will have to climb up 1,914 steps to conquer Vietnam’s highest building which is 72 storeys high.

The high-rise complex on Pham Hung Street in the capital consists of a commercial center at a height of nearly 350 meters and two 50-floor luxury apartment buildings.

Director David Shin of Sporting Republic said one of the main targets of the race was to promote Hanoi’s image as a leading destination for tourism, business and sports activities. The run on Vietnam’s highest building will attract attention from outside the country, Shin said.

Those interested can register at www.landmark72run.com with participation fees of around VND315,000 (US$15) per person.

Around 500 participants including the Vertical World Champion, Germany’s Thomas Dold, joined the same race at the 68-storey Bitexco Financial Tower in downtown HCMC at the end of October last year.
