Doosan Vina and Chung Ang University Hospital (CAUH) on Monday started a five-day pprogram to carry out free health checks and cataract surgeries in the central province of Quang Ngai.
Though cataracts can be repaired with minor surgery, many patients in Vietnam cannot afford it so this program will provide surgeries for low income people selected by Quang Ngai Province’s authorities, the South Korean company, Doosan Vina, said.
Four surgeons from CAUH, which is also in South Korea, will take part in the surgery on 30 cataract patients at Quang Ngai General Hospital.
Under the joint program 1,500 people from nearby areas will receive health checks by a team of 14 CAUH doctors. Eligible areas include Binh Tri, Binh Dong, Binh Thuan communes of Binh Son District, Quang Ngai Province.
On July 22 CAUH will donate a Faco Machine and a surgery kit worth US$30,000 to the hospital.
“Doosan Vina is making efforts to become a Vietnam company that has the love from the local community and helps develop Vietnam’s industry,” BJ Cho, general director of Doosan Vina said in a statement.
“This year the company wants to bring light to cataract patients while last year we brought smiles to Vietnamese children with harelips.”
After signing an MOU on medical service with Quang Ngai Provincial Government and CAUH last May, DV provided free surgery to 29 patients with harelips in July last year, treated more than 1,000 people at Binh Son, and took four children to Korea for harelip surgery at CAUH in February.
