People’s Artist Trong Khoi on Thursday morning passed away at Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi due to a fatal illness, Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper reports.
Born in 1943 in Hanoi, Khoi graduated from the Vietnam School of Stage Arts in 1963. He was active as an actor in the Vietnam National Theater from 1964 to 1970 and then served as deputy head of the performance troupe at the theater before taking over as head.
In 1989, Khoi was given the Meritorious Artist title and held the position of deputy director of the theater. Eleven years later, he was honored as People’s Artist and became the theater’s director.
Khoi continued to undertake many important positions such as chairman of the Vietnam Artist Stage Association and director of Vietnam Center of the ITI under the international stage academy.
Khoi won the hearts of local and foreign audiences alike in several roles, including Lia King in the play of the same name, Truong Ba in Hon Truong Ba, da hang thit (Truong Ba’s soul, butcher’s skin) and Nghi Hach in Giong to (Rainstorm).
