The first two special edition dragons to mark the millennium of Thang Long-Hanoi had their HCMC launch on Friday at the Park Royal Hotel in Tan Binh District .

Dong Son Fine Arts JSC, who made the pair, is making 1,000 bronze dragons for the Hanoi Millenium. This first pair is bigger and more special than the rest of the series.

The two dragons, coded 0001 and 1000, will be auctioned live on TV at the Rong thieng ngan nam or “Sacred dragons of a thousand years” ceremony to raise funds for Vietnamese Agent Orange/Dioxin victims on September 26.

The 0001 and 1000 codes respectively represent the years that King Ly Thai To issued a royal decree to move the capital to Thang Long and the year of the great ceremony of Thang Long.

The bronze dragons have rubies for eyes and are gold plated. They are copies of dragons cast during the Ly Dynasty. Individuals and organizations who want to own a Thang Long dragon should register by emailing rongthanglong2010@gmail.com or at the website www.rongthanglong.vn before August 30.

The statues come with certificates issued by the steering committee of 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

Enterprises that have already ordered Thang Long dragon include Vietcombank, Ba Na Hills Resort, Ha Long Cement brand, Tuong Long Logistic and Dr Thanh.

Plans to extend the display of the two dragons in Saigon were cancelled due to some problems.
