“City sculpture and human rhythm” on display

By Tuong Lan in Hanoi

An exhibition titled “City sculpture and the human rhythm”, featuring works by Dutch artist Wessel Huisman, will open in the museum of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in Hanoi on Friday.

The exhibition will feature twenty-five black and white paintings showing the strong change in Vietnam’s urban areas and the presence of man within. The artist’s use of light in these paintings is characteristic of his technique.

Vị trí đặt quảng cáoThroughout his study at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Netherland, Wessel Huisman (born 1954) was fascinated by the method of light. After years of training and developing his artistic skills, he considered a very simple but crucial question: how to apply light into his works, in other words, how to represent light with paints?

For the last two decades, Wessel Huisman has used almost only black and white paint to create his own light.

The exhibition is part of a project financed by the Culture and Development program of the Netherlands and organized with the co-operation of two well-known Fine Arts Universities in Vietnam, based on photos of city views and street images taken during his recent travels around Vietnam

Huisman’s paintings have been on display in HCMC for the last two weeks, during which time he has also held a seminar to discuss arts with teachers and students at the Fine Arts Universities in both HCMC and Hanoi.

The exhibition will last until December 5.
