Martin Schuster shares ‘Mental Places’ with Hanoi viewers

By Hanh Thu in Hanoi

‘Mental Places’ by German artist Martin Schuster will take place at No. 18, Alley 275 Au Co in Hanoi at 6 p.m. a week on Friday.

On display are works inspired by his experiences in Vietnam and ideas of the collective dreams, wishes and anxieties of Schuster.

Schuster said it was difficult to focus on work and to have peace of mind in a busy city like Hanoi but he found solitude. His paintings therefore feature different subjects such as religion, working places, isolation and places of joy and salvation in a surrealistic or fantastic style.

Schuster studied painting in Germany for four years and then spent his last school year studying lacquer paintings, oil colors, drawings and etching techniques at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts.
