A nine-day caravan named “A charity journey from Saigon to Hanoi 2010” to welcome the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi left HCMC on Thursday on its first leg to Binh Thuan province.

The caravan, which was organized by C.T Group, HCMC Business Association, Vietnam’s Young Doctor Association and other donors, will travel through provinces including Binh Thuan, Khanh Hoa, Thua Thien-Hue, Danang, Binh Dinh, Quang Binh on its way to the capital.

At each stop, the group will carry out charity activities such as supplying free health checks; distributing medicines, giving scholarships to the poor; and cultural exchange programs with local economic and cultural organisations.

About 2,500 gift packages of rice, sugar, instant noodles, soybean sauce, stationery, clothes and medicines worth a total of VND1.4 billion are expected to be delivered throughout the trip. Additionally, the caravan will also seek investment opportunities at the places it visits.
