The fifth Xuan Hong Festival will be held at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi this Sunday with organizers calling for more public blood donations.

The event is co-organized by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the voluntary blood donation campaign in Hanoi and the Hanoi Association of Youth Blood Donor Recruitment.

With the message ‘Sharing the red blood, sharing the hopes,’ the festival expects to attract over 10,000 blood donors, who will turn out about 6,000 blood units. Organizers are hoping 500 couples can donate blood to emphasize the togetherness of the campaign.

The institute has appointed 500 staff and more than 3,000 volunteers to work at the event. There will be 400 buses and 200 taxis to transfer donors from inner districts in Hanoi and outlying areas and live music at the event.

Since 2008, the event has attracted 23,047 blood donors who created 15,388 blood units. Currently, the institute is responsible for supplying blood to 107 hospitals around the country but there is still a severe lack of blood for patients nationwide.
