Hong Leong Bank Vietnam, a subsidiary of Hong Leong Group (Malaysia), on Sunday started to grant the first 20 scholarships of a program called Be a Guardian to children with difficulties and outstanding academic records.
The bank will award a total of 100 scholarships worth VND700 million (US$36,000) this year to children in HCMC and Hanoi with the support of the Gentle Fund Organization.
This is part of the Hong Leong Group’s long-term commitment to corporate social responsibility. Hong Leong Bank Vietnam actively engages itself in community improvement activities, particularly in education.
Yap Chee Woy, deputy general director of Hong Leong Bank Vietnam, said in a statement, “We are very glad to join this project. At Hong Leong Bank Vietnam, we take top priority with education activities because children are our future.”
Volunteers, as “guardians”, will be kept informed of the progress of sponsored children and will visit the children regularly to encourage them in their studies.
Hong Leong Bank Vietnam on Sunday also joined seven social groups at Long Hoa Orphanage in District 7 to create a healthy environment for the orphans and children in neighboring areas and to educate them on environment protection.
