World Food Festival kicks off

The 2010 World Food Festival, the largest food event in Vietnam, kicked off last night at Thuy Van Beach in Vung Tau City. The festival will run till July 25.

 2010 World Food Festival program:

- July 21: Roadshow around Vung Tau City at 9:30 p.m., food booth opening, entertainment and games at 5 p.m., opening ceremony on the main stage at 8 p.m. and a bikini night 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

July 22: Roadshow, food booths, entertainment and games, “Vietnam’s Culture Day” discussion by Vietnamese and foreigners on various stages at 11 a.m, a talkshow by Prof. Tran Van Khe on the main stage at 7 p.m., and “Tropical Night” entertainment 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

- July 23:  Roadshow, food booths, entertainment and games, discussion on  topic “World’s Culture Day” at 11 a.m., Martin Yan visits food booths at 5p.m.and his talkshow on main stage at 8 p.m., beach bang party 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

- July 24: Roadshow, food booths, entertainment and games at 11 a.m., cooking show by Martin Yan on the main stage at 5 p.m., carnival and fireworks display at 8 p.m., “Saturday fever” 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

- July 25: Roadshow, food booths, entertainment and games at 11 a.m., closing ceremony and farewell party 8 p.m.

The “Taste the World” festival features five themes – food, culture, festivity, shopping and relaxation and expects to attract about 600,000 local tourists and a million foreign tourists.

The event, hosted by Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province’s People’s Committee, received VND24 billion from 40 enterprises in addition to VND200 million from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

There are food booths of 31 local provinces and cities and 31 nations and territories around the world.

Tourists can enjoy traditional food and drinks, explore and exchange diverse cultures, and buy ethnic products of many countries.

The festival has seminars on food, a wine tasting event, eating contest and parties with international DJs.  There are also bartender shows and cooking shows by world famous chef Martin Yan - “Yan Can Cook”.
