I have to apologize in advance here folks because I had every intention our informing you of the excitement of racing an ostrich. A group of us had ventured from the city to Vuon Xoai which is famous for its ostrich racing for the brave among us.
Alas, despite the resort workers being told they had at least a dozen interested paying customers willing to risk their lives to ride these temperamental animals, the best they could come up with was ‘wait one hour’.
By this time we had been walking in the heat for about four hours and had had enough. There was no way we were willing to wait an hour, so we decided to do the next best thing and eat some ostrich.
It was lunchtime and that consisted of ostrich and crocodile meat with rice and vegetables washed down by red wine with ice. Every drink with ice in Vietnam is the rule and who am I to complain.
Ostrich meat is a favorite of mine, although when you see the live animals a few hundred yards away you do feel a tad guilty until you taste it, delicious. Crocodile meat was a little dry but still okay, you have to try everything once.
Vuon Xoai is located at 114 Tan Cang, Phuoc Tan, Bien Hoa, Phuoc Tan, Long Thanh, Dong Nai Province.
