Rustic dishes of Can Gio salt-marsh forest at Restaurant 79

Can Gio has been acknowledged by UNESCO as a world salt-marsh biosphere reserve for its diversity of fauna and flora.

The area, which is located 50 kilometers from HCMC, is also known for its rustic but unique seafood caught by local fishermen. With an aim to introduce the food to Saigonese, Restaurant 79 located in HCMC’s District 11 has launched Huong rung ve pho (Forest taste in the city).
The restaurant covers thousands of square meters with natural building materials to make diners imagine the salt-marsh forest and mangrove trees of Can Gio and a salt water pool with mud transported from the forest.
It features over 200 Vietnamese specialties with vegetables and seafood originating from Vam Sat-Can Gio forest, like ba khia (small crab), y crab, thoi loi fish, ngat fish and khoai fish among others. A dish which is recommended to diners is grilled bong nhay fish served with vegetables which delivers a natural sweet and chewy taste of the fish.
The restaurant opens daily from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. and offers a breakfast, lunch and a-la-carte menu. Food is priced from VND70,000 to VND120,000 per person.
