The HCMC Tax Department will continue ordering the Netherlands-based ride-hailing firm Uber to pay back tax after the firm withdrew its lawsuit against the taxman, said Nguyen Nam Binh, deputy director of the HCMC Tax Department. Uber no longer operates in Vietnam after its Southeast Asia unit was taken over by Grab earlier.

Domestic wood processing companies have overtaken foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises in terms of export revenue. In previous years, FDI firms earned higher export revenue from wooden products than local processors, at certain times even accounting for 70% of the sector’s export turnover, said Nguyen Quoc Khanh, chairman of the HCMC Handicraft and Wood Industry Association (HAWA). He was speaking at a press meeting on August 6 to introduce a Government’s conference on orientations and solutions to the fast and sustainable development of the wood processing sector set to be held on August 8 in HCMC.
