HCMC - Viettel IDC on Tuesday opened its US$18 million data center in Song Than Industrial Park in the southern province of Binh Duong, which is the company’s third data center in the country.

Covering about 3,500 square meters, the five-storey building can accommodate 40,000 servers in conditions that meet the International Standards of Tier 3 - TIA 942, the strictest standard.

The center is equipped with the professional fire fighting system for data centers FM200 Fire System. The center’s security also satisfies ISO27001 – the current highest security level.

In addition, the center uses radio frequency identification (RFID) and fingerprint card for computer rooms, and decentralized to control staff and customers in and out the machine room.

The center provides collocation, domain name, shared hosting, disaster recovery and server leasing services, targeting State clients and others in the banking, securities, insurance, media and telecom sectors.

Le Duc Hoang, deputy director of Viettel IDC, claimed at the opening ceremony on Tuesday that hiring the data center could help enterprises reduce 50-70% of the cost compared to the development of an own data center.

Hoang said Viettel IDC is constructing its fourth data center in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park in Hanoi that is expected to be up and operating next year.

Viettel IDC is a joint venture between the military-based Viettel Corporation and Taiwan-based Chunghwa Telecom set up in 2008 to provide data center services in Vietnam.

The initial investment is US$30 million, of which 70% is provided by Viettel and 30% comes from Chunghwa Telecom. Viettel will be in charge of marketing initiatives and administrative management. Up to date, Viettel IDC is operating data centers in Hanoi City’s Phap Van, Hoang Hoa Tham in HCMC, and now Song Than in Binh Duong.
