Huge numbers of local and foreign tourists participated in a variety of entertainment and art programs held in HCMC during the three-day national holiday to mark the 72nd anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2, 1945-2017).

A mass wedding ceremony for 100 couples who are poor workers in HCMC and neighboring provinces took place on the morning of September 2. Grooms and brides joined a cycling parade on some of the main streets in the city before dropping by the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in front of the City Hall on Nguyen Hue pedestrian square to offer flowers.

In addition, around 50 students wearing Vietnamese-flag themed T-shirts staged an outdoor music performance in front of the City Opera House in District 1 in the same morning, capturing the attention of passers-by and international tourists.

Meanwhile, local youths descended to Nguyen Hue and Bui Vien pedestrian-only streets and popular tourist sites to enjoy music performances by street artists and music bands, savor tasty street food, and pose for photos to record the special and happy moments of the holiday.

A large number of tourists flocked to coastal venues like Long Hai, Vung Tau, Phu Quoc and Nha Trang to escape the scorching heat in the city, while throngs of holiday-goers from neighboring provinces visited recreational parks in the city such as Suoi Tien Park District 9 and the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden in District 1.

Especially, thousands of city dwellers and those from abroad rushed to Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11 to watch a 15-minute breathtaking fireworks display on the night of September 2, making the site more crowded and bustling than ever.

Tran Tien Thuan, a 36-year-old resident in Go Vap District, said he and his family traveled to Dam Sen Park in District 11 to watch an impressive fireworks display even though his home is far from there since Dam Sen was the city’s only place to display fireworks this time.

A 28-year-old Australian woman who lives in a rented apartment in HCMC’s Phu Nhuan District said it took her more than one hour and a half to come to the Dam Sen Park because of heavy traffic in downtown areas. Fireworks shows are held on special occasions only, so she took advantage of this occassion for her photo and video shoots, she added.
