ILA honors excellent students

By Dung Trung

One hundred and twenty nine students who have gained outstanding achievements in FCE, PET, KET and FLYERS tests at ILA English language centers nationwide were honored at the ILA Elite VIP Night event for their exemplary academic performance.

The ceremony took place at the Times Square tower in downtown HCMC on September 8, marking the “Back to School 2017” first milestone of ILA Vietnam, one of the leading English teaching centers in Vietnam.

Guests come early to join activities organized by ILA.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Tang My Nhien, one of the top five scorers in the FCE test, said the first day of learning at ILA has been on her mind as everything is quite new to her with fresh friends and native English teachers.

But a strange feeling passed quickly thanks to the comfortable learning environment and enthusiastic teachers at ILA, Nhien noted.

Nhien’s mother Nguyen Thi My Tinh shared the joy at the ceremony, saying that she is surprised by her daughter’s fast progress as Nhien was previously not confident in communicating in English. Thanks to the dedication of ILA teachers, Tinh said, her daughter has developed a passion for English and garnered soft skills such as teamwork, communication and presentation.

Engagement in learning activities at ILA is also a preparatory step for Nhien to fulfill her dream of studying abroad as she has dreamed of winning a ticket to Harvard University and becoming a diplomat, Tinh added.
Nguyen Phuc Anh Tuan whose daughter, Nguyen Thien Van Khanh, was also honored at the ceremony said his daughter began taking English courses at ILA at the age of nine and her English proficiency has substantially improved ever since.

But the friendliness and thoughtfulness of ILA teachers to young learners, Tuan explained, are what make him satisfied.

At the award ceremony, the 129 excellent students were awarded a laurel wreath and a scholarship worth VND5 million each as the first step in the center’s long-term effort to nurture the dream of the young Vietnamese generation, with an emphasis on five ILA Elite grants totaling VND500 million (around US$22,000) per person.

Nguyen Tien Dat (L), deputy director of the HCMC Department of Education and Training, shares the joy with young students at the award ceremony

Nguyen Tien Dat, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Education and Training, said he highly appreciates the teaching methods that ILA has been used over the years.

Along with tremendous efforts of the city’s education sector, schools and teachers, an English language training organization like ILA plays a very important role in assisting learners in improving reading and writing skills. Learners will be equipped with not only language and life skills but also extensive knowledge of different cultures as a first step to prepare to become a global citizen, Dat added.
