Vietnamese photographers defeated more than 2,100 rivals from different APEC members to claim the top three prizes of the APEC Photo contest held on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders meeting in the central city of Danang.

Tinh Than bagged the first prize of the contest with his work titled “Sunset Life” while Huong Vinh won the second prize for his photo “The Sea Flower”, and Dinh Thuong Tran with the photo “Building the Flower Industry” took the third prize, the organizing committee announced at the conclusion of the Senior Officials’ Meeting last week.

The photo contest is an activity by the APEC Secretariat to seek public visual interpretation of APEC’s priorities for 2017 including promoting sustainable growth, deepening regional economic integration, strengthening small businesses’ competitiveness and enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture.

The seventh edition of the APEC Photo Contest welcomed 2,126 amateur and professional photo enthusiasts from various APEC member economies.

The judging panel of the contest comprised world-renowned photojournalists, industry experts and senior public officials including APEC Executive Director Alan Bollard, award-winning photographer Palani, APEC Photo Contest multi-year winner and photographer Truong Huu Hung, and standing deputy foreign minister and chair of APEC 2017 Senior Officials Bui Thanh Son.

This year’s contest was open for the first time to entries from Instagram through the APEC Secretariat’s official account with an aim to captivate the attention of a wider audience.

Established in 1989, APEC is an economic forum intended to invigorate sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. Its 21 members include Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.
