Vietnam, China issue joint statement

Vietnam and China have issued a joint statement affirming the determination to work closely to bolster their comprehensive strategic partnership for the interests of the two peoples and for peace, stability and prosperity in the region, according to the Government news website.

The document was issued on the occasion of the State visit to Vietnam by China’s Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and his attendance at the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting from November 10-13.

During the visit, Xi held talks with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and President Tran Dai Quang, and had separate meetings with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

PM speaks at 31st ASEAN Summit

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc delivered a speech at the plenary session of the 31st ASEAN Summit in Manila, the Philippines on November 13, calling for a stronger determination to build a self-reliant ASEAN community that upholds the interests of citizens, said the Vietnam News Agency.

Phuc underscored the development of the ASEAN Economic Community via economic connectivity and internal trade facilitation and the strengthening of mutual support among member economies. He suggested the regional grouping further uphold its central role and stature in the international arena for the sake of peace, security and prosperity in the region.

On the East Sea issue, PM Phuc welcomed a ministerial consensus on principles at the 50th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM 50) held in Manila in August.

Vietnam joins ASEAN multilateral naval exercise

Vietnam’s Ly Thai To naval ship called on Chuk-Samet Port in Thailand on November 13 to prepare for the first ever multilateral naval exercise AMNEX 2017 and the ASEAN International Fleet Reviews 2017.

According to the Vietnam News Agency, the Royal Thai Navy held a reception ceremony for crewmembers on board the HQ 012 Gepard-class frigate. The Vietnamese crewmembers will attend all activities of the 15-day exercise starting today, including maneuvers and seminars on oil spill reaction and sea environment protection and experience sharing.

Vietnam Air, Vietjet spend US$2 billion on aircraft orders

Vietnam Airlines signed a contract with American aerospace firm Pratt &Whitney to buy engines and support services for 20 Airbus A321neo aircraft, with Vietnam’s President Tran Dai Quang and U.S.

President Donald Trump witnessing. The deal between Vietnam Airlines and Pratt & Whitney is valued at more than US$1.5 billion, and includes 44 PurePower Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines in accordance with comprehensive terms of warranty, maintenance and repair.

Meanwhile, Vietjet and Pratt & Whitney also announced the selection of GTF engines to power an order for 10 new aircraft. This deal, which is valued at US$600 million, includes a 12-year fleet management program for Vietjet’s aircraft.

The two companies have so far reached a trade turnover of US$3.7 billion.

Lotte Mart introduces online shopping app

Lotte Mart launched an app allowing customers to shop online at its supermarket chain early this month.

The “Speed Lotte” app is available for Android and iOS devices. Besides, clients can log in the website to buy its products.
