Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Dien at the University of Economics and Law (UEL) in HCMC has become the first Vietnamese to be admitted to the French Academy of Overseas Sciences, according to a source from the university.

Earlier, Dien got the National Order of the Legion of Honor, the highest French order of merit for military and civil merits, from the French government for his contributions to strengthening the relationship between Vietnam and France.

Currently, he serves as vice president of the university, and is responsible for the scientific research and international cooperation department.

Founded in 1922, the French Academy of Overseas Sciences comprises 41 official members, with many of them former politicians of Senegal, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Brazil.
