HCMC – The government of HCMC and military-run telecom giant Viettel Group signed a cooperation agreement on November 17 to develop HCMC into a smart city in the 2017-2020 period, with a vision towards 2025.

The two sides will cooperate in researching, developing and applying information technology (IT), chips, and other scientific and technological solutions in fields which will facilitate HCMC’s transformation into a smart city.

The HCMC Department of Information and Communications and Viettel HCMC will draw up a plan to implement the agreement.

The cooperation will focus on information security, data sharing, IT infrastructure for healthcare, education and transport, telecom infrastructure, and Internet of Things (IoT).

They will join hands to study and produce chips, and establish an IT startup support center at Viettel Complex Building, 285 Cach Mang Thang Tam Street, District 10, HCMC.

The deal will not affect the contracts and agreements which the city has signed with other partners.
