Winner of logo design contest named

Le Anh

Belgian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Dirk Achten and his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son unveiled the winning logo for the celebration of 45 years of diplomatic relations during the reception on the occasion of Belgium’s King’s Day on November 23.

The design was made by Nguyen Thu Quynh, a fourth-year student of the graphic design department at the University of Industrial Fine Arts.

The design represents the typical Vietnamese conical head in the three colors of the Belgian flag. The eyes represent the peoples of the two countries and the two silk ribbons inspire freedom, peace, inspiration and luck. The left cord signifies Belgium, the right cord Vietnam. The ribbons bend themselves together to form the number 45, showing the close bond between the two countries, durable diplomacy and steadiness.

The logo design contest was organized in the framework of cooperation between the Embassy and the University of Industrial Fine Arts, especially for 20 talented students of the graphic design department, who completed one-week training with Arno Heeren, a Belgian professional graphic designer.

The winner was selected through a public vote on Facebook and consequently by a jury composed of the Belgian Ambassador Jehanne Roccas, Le Dzung, head of the Europe Department at the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dang Minh Vu, dean of the Graphic Design Department under the University of Industrial Fine Arts and the Belgian Alan Cerutti, the co-founder and CEO of Happiness Saigon, the Creative Connectivity Agency.

The winning design will serve as the official logotype for all celebrations linked to the anniversary in 2018. The laureate will be offered a first on-the-job-experience through a 2-week internship at Belgian run and founded creative PR agency “Happiness Saigon” in HCMC.

Friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Belgium and Vietnam have been developed over the last 44 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1973. This year, the partners also look back on 40 years of the presence of the Belgian Development Cooperation in Vietnam.

Belgium has taken pride in supporting the development of Vietnam in a number of areas. In particular, it has assisted Vietnamese education through scholarship programs and knowledge exchanges. So far, more than 2000 Vietnamese got a Belgian education.

From being long standing partners in development cooperation, Belgium and Vietnam have been maturing bilateral ties in different sectors.
