The American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham Vietnam) - HCMC Chapter last Saturday granted 60 scholarships worth VND10 million (US$0440) each to city students with outstanding academic records, a good command of English and active participation in extracurricular activities.

After 17 years of operation, AmCham Scholarship has helped thousands of students at 15 leading universities in HCMC.

Speaking at the scholarship presentation ceremony on December 2, Jonathan Moreno, chairman of AmCham Vietnam, said that in the last 17 years, the program has helped develop human resources for AmCham member companies, and give students an opportunity to garner professional working skills.

The three-month assessment process for AmCham Scholarship 2017 comprised three rounds – application form screening, an ability test and an interview in English with HR specialists.

The scholarship assessment process was similar to the recruitment process at many multinational companies, which helps evaluate candidates’ abilities and equip them with vital skills for entering a professional work environment.

The program received more than 550 applications this year.

The 2017 AmCham Scholarship received support from AmCham member companies including Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage, AmCham Vietnam Direct Selling Committee, Intel Products Vietnam, Yola Institute, Talentnet Corporation, Dow Chemical International, Unilever Vietnam, PepsiCo Foods Vietnam and Thai Ha Books.

Aside from financial support worth VND10 million each, the scholarship recipients will be offered an opportunity to get engaged in a variety of AmCham activities, join the AmCham Scholar Alumni (ASA) Club, and take part in many corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.

AmCham has to date presented 755 scholarships, honorable awards, and soft skill training courses to students from 13 universities in HCMC with a total sponsorship of VND6 billion.
