PNJ honored in top 10 sustainable development enterprises

Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ) was cited as one of the top 10 enterprises for sustainable development at a recent ceremony in Hanoi. PNJ has won the title for the second straight year.

Firms nominated for the title were evaluated by the Vietnam Enterprise Council for Sustainable Development and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

Launched in 2016, the annual program honors enterprises obtaining outstanding achievements in sustainable development. This year, the award attracted nearly 500 entries, marking a significant increase over 2016 and suggesting that the business community has paid more attention to the matter.

According to representatives of the organizing committee, they used a set of indicators developed by VCCI. This year, there were 134 criteria for three areas: economy, society and environment.

PNJ fully met the criteria. At the enterprise, success is measured not only by profit but also by contributions to the environment, society and people.

Strong growth in revenue

Since the beginning of this year, PNJ has obtained strong growth. Between January and September, its total revenue reached VND7.9 trillion, meeting 77% of the full-year target, while its gross profit was VND1,319 billion, up 31% year-on-year and accounting for 79% of the year’s plan. Its after-tax profit was VND629 billion, up 42% year-on-year and meeting 84% of the year’s plan. PNJ is expected raise this year’s revenue by nearly 30%.

By November, PNJ had opened 44 new stores, taking the total to 263 nationwide. The company expects to open 67 more in 2018.

PNJ’s market share in 2017 is estimated at 27%. According to VPBank Securities Company, this figure may increase to 28% next year and 30.4% in 2020.

PNJ’s share price is currently above VND126,000 on the stock market, double that at the beginning of this year.

Striving for sustainability

As people are the most valuable asset, PNJ always launches policies and programs to support staff by donating houses to disadvantaged employees and organizing cultural festivals.

Besides, PNJ is looking to embrace clean production, save energy, material and water, and treat waste to ensure a safe environment for employees and the surrounding area.

Prioritizing customer benefits

PNJ always tries to harmonize benefits of itself, employees and customers. It has donated 52 shelters to needy people nationwide.

PNJ brings homes to disadvantaged people

The company has cooperated with associations to launch a number of activities and sponsorship programs, organize forums and workshops to support the advancement of women and the businesswoman community. It has granted scholarships to disadvantaged students and built schools with a total value of VND11.3 billion this year.

Besides, PNJ has launched an environmental protection program called “Thank you for not littering,” which has left a strong impression on the public.

Together with the title of Sustainable Development Enterprise in 2017, PNJ has been honored as an Enterprise for Employees by the General Confederation of Labor of Vietnam in association with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
