Throngs of bookworms and holiday-goers late last week rushed to Nguyen Van Binh Book Street next to two of HCMC’s landmarks, the Post Office and the Notre Dame Cathedral in HCMC’s District 1 to partake in a variety of exhilarating activities to welcome the festive spirit of Christmas.

Book enthusiasts and budget-conscious readers took advantage of weekend breaks to pass by the book street as hundreds of books ranging from children’s works and novels to economic books and foreign books are on offer with huge discounts of up to 50%.

Furthermore, many young kids and party-goers expressed their excitement to write wishes on Christmas cards and letters prepared by Phuong Nam Corporation while some young people and foreign tourists were curious to join a small class with no charge to learn how to make handmade products from recycled materials.

Those visiting the book street on two weekend days were also surprised to receive nice gifts from Santa Claus and watch Christmas-themed music performances in harmony with the festive atmosphere which has been overwhelming many street corners, shopping centers, restaurants and entertainment sites.

Vu Thi Nhung, a 27-year-old staff of a bookstore on the book street, says that from now until the last days of 2017, the book street is to organize a series of fun public activities to meet the demands for entertainment among city dwellers during the upcoming holidays. The book street, she added, is these days busier and more crowded than ever as local youths and photographers come to pose for photos and purchase books at discounted prices.

The book street officially came into operation in January 2016. Since then, the modern convergence point for bookworms has organized multiple artistic and recreational activities, turning itself into a new entertainment venue for local youths, city dwellers and the expat community.
