HCMC – Dozens of flights from and to southern Vietnam were cancelled on December 25 as Typhoon Tembin was moving towards the country, having battered the Philippines with floods and landslides that killed more than 230 people.

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines cancelled all of its flights from Hanoi City or HCMC to Phu Quoc Island off Kien Giang Province, and from Hanoi to the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho between 12:40 and 20:30 on December 25. It said affected passengers would be arranged on other flights today.

Besides, the airline rescheduled its flights from and to Tan Son Nhat International Airport between 15:00 and 23:00 on December 25 due to the impact of the storm.

Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO), a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines, also cancelled 16 flights scheduled for between 8:45 and 15:25 on air services between HCMC and Con Dao Island off mainland Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, between Con Dao and Can Tho, and between Can Tho and Phu Quoc.

Low-cost airline Jetstar Pacific also adjusted its scheduled flights from and to Tan Son Nhat Airport and Phu Quoc. In addition, some of its domestic flights were delayed.

Another Vietnamese low-cost carrier, Vietjet, also called off its services between Hanoi and Danang to Can Tho and Phu Quoc, as well as between HCMC and Phu Quoc on December 25.

These airlines stressed passengers planning to travel by air from or to Tan Son Nhat, Phu Quoc, Can Tho, and Cam Ranh (in Khanh Hoa Province) should regularly update storm information.

Tembin is the 16th major storm to hit Vietnam this year. The storms and other disasters have left 390 people dead or missing, according to the news agency Reuters citing official figures.
