Filipino American singer Allan Pineda Lindo, also known as Apl de Ap, came to Vietnam for the first time to stage an impressive music performance in the New Year countdown festival in Nguyen Hue pedestrian square on December 31.

The festival attracted more than 50,000 local youths and foreign tourists on New Year’s Eve.

Before the main event, the singer took a tour of famous landmarks in HCMC such as Ben Thanh Market to learn about the history of the age-old market and the Vietnamese culinary culture during his first visit to the country.

Furthermore, the 43-year-old artist dropped by an ao dai exhibition house on Nguyen Hue Boulevard to explore ao dai (Vietnamese long dress) and traditional handicrafts, and observe how the Vietnamese preserve their cultural traditions through ao dai.

Apl de Ap is also a member of the Grammy Award-winning hip-hop group. After shooting to fame in the American music industry and gaining outstanding achievements, Lindo decided to return to the Philippines to give a helping hand to young artists to set a foothold in the world’s music industry.

Speaking to the Daily at the festival on December 31, he said he is proud to be invited by popular Vietnamese Australian singer Thanh Bui to join the countdown party on New Year’s Eve in HCMC.

During his tour, he had the opportunity to gain an insight into Vietnamese culture and people. “Sure, I will be back to Vietnam in the coming time as Vietnamese fans are nice and beautiful,” he said.

The music festival featured a combination of Eastern and Western cultures with the participation of international artists such as Jessica Reynoso, Laurence Tremblay-Vu and Joel Hanna, highlighting the noble achievements of the city in 2017 and promoting the image of the city to international friends.
