HCMC – Phan Van Anh Vu, alias Vu Nhom, a Danang City property magnate who is wanted for allegedly disclosing State secrets, was arrested in Hanoi on January 4 after he had been expelled from Singapore.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security said in a statement posted on its website on January 4 that Vu had been handed over to investigators of the ministry and would be investigated under the current laws and regulations.

There was a passenger named Phan Van Anh Vu on Vietnam Airlines Flight VN662 that took off at 13:25 (local time) on January 4 from Singapore and landed at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi at 15:40 (Hanoi time), shows a Phap Luat newspaper picture featuring a computer screen.

The Ministry of Public Security statement said the 43-year-old had breached Vietnamese law and got away from his residence in Danang City. On December 21 last year, police at the ministry issued an arrest warrant for Vu while his whereabouts remained unknown.

A video posted on the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper website shows an SUV had gone straight to the foot of a stairway at the airport before security officers, including some in uniforms, escorted someone into the waiting car.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore on Tuesday announced on its website that Vu had been detained since December 28, 2017 for violating the Immigration Act of Singapore.

One of three lawyers representing Vu confirmed on January 3 that Vu was in police custody in Singapore, Thanh Nien newspaper reports. Choo Zheng Xi (Remy), Vu’s attorney, told local media that he had met Vu in a Singapore detention center and that Vu was worried about his fate.
