Weekend is approaching. Following are a couple of weekend destinations which might be of your interest.

Nha Nam Books N’ Coffee Saigon: 24A, D5 Street, Ward 25, Binh Thanh District

HCMC-based Nha Nam Media and Publishing House will hold a book talk show at Nha Nam Books N’ Coffee Saigon in HCMC’s Binh Thanh District at 9.30 a.m. this Saturday on January 6 to kick off the New Year.

The event with its theme “To gain success for study and work in the U.S., Vietnam and around the world” opens up opportunities for young people to meet up and talk with young female writer Phan Viet, who has many years of experience living and working in the American educational sector.

Notably, Dr. Harris Pastides, the 28th president of the University of South Carolina, and Dr. Haemoon Oh, Dean of the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management under the university, are expected to show up at the event to share learning and job-seeking experiences in the American educational environment.

CGV Crescent Mall, 3H Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard, District 7

Parents with plans to give their kids some relaxation after stressful school hours could take them to CGV Crescent Mall on the fifth floor of the Crescent Mall shopping complex in Phu My Hung urban area in District 7 to watch a family-themed film “Wonder” at 9.30 a.m., 2.10 p.m. and 6.50 p.m. on Saturday night.

Based on the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name written by RJ Palacio, the movie, directed by American novelist, screenwriter, and film director Stephen Chbosky, shares the story of a young boy named Auggie struggling to overcome facial differences to lead a better life.

The film which is screened in English with Vietnamese subtitles is open to people of all ages.

Saigon Zoo & Botanical Garden: 2 Nguyen Binh Khiem Street, District 1

Those without busy schedule during the weekend should head to the Saigon Zoo & Botanical Garden in District 1 to admire the vibrant space lit up by the colorful LED lights during the LJ International Lighting Festival which is being organized for the first time in HCMC. 

The zoo is decorated with millions of LED lights, with the shapes depicting the world’s renowned travel destinations, favorite animals and flowers, attracting a huge numbers of local youths and foreign tourists for photo shoots every night.

The festival is open from 6.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily and is scheduled to last until March 23.
