Popular Japanese music band “Kuricorder and Friends” will come to Vietnam for a music concert in Hanoi on January 12 and in HCMC on January 14.

Organized by the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam (Japan Foundation Vietnam), the concert is part of a series of activities in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam.

“Kuricorder & Friends” is a music exchange project by a group of Japanese musicians including well-known music band Kuricorder Quartet, the duet Beautiful Hummingbird and singer Chiku Toshiaki.

Established in 1994, Kuricorder Quartet has gained popularity as a recorder ensembles group thanks to their exceptional ability to play various musical instruments such as recorders, saxophone, melodions, percussion and ukuleles. The music band, whose works have been heard by most Japanese children through “Pythagoraswitch”, a well-known children’s program broadcast by NHK Educational TV, has secured a foothold in the Japanese music industry.

This year marks the third time that the four-member music band has arrived in Vietnam with the first in 2013 and the second in 2016.

Ngo Tra My, one of the most famous dan bau (one-stringed Vietnamese zither) players in Vietnam, will be invited to perform at the upcoming concerts to spur cultural exchange among Vietnamese and Japanese artists on the occasion, the Japan Foundation Vietnam told the Daily.

The concert will take place at 8 p.m. this Friday in Hanoi at the Youth Theater, 11 Ngo Thi Nham Street, and at the same time this Sunday at the HCMC Conservatory of Music, 112 Nguyen Du Street, District 1.

Admission to the concert is free. In Hanoi, free tickets can be obtained at the Japan Foundation Center, 27 Quang Trung Street in Hoan Kiem District while audiences in HCMC can collect tickets at the HCMC Conservatory of Music.
