HCMC – The Hanoi stock market ended its four-day winning streak with a mild decrease on January 24, sending the HNX-Index down 0.05% against the session earlier at 126.26 points.

Turnover, however, slid strongly as investors stayed on the sidelines as the HCMC bourse suspended trading for a second day running because of a technical glitch. There were 60.1 million shares worth VND1 trillion traded, down 37% and 29.4% versus Tuesday respectively.

Lender SHB again took the lead by liquidity with 14 million shares traded, rising a slight 0.85% at VND11,900 a share. Oil and gas firm PVS and lender ACB came next with 6.5 million shares and 4.1 million shares but the two stocks lost 0.32% and 0.7% at VND31,000 and VND41,100 per share respectively.

Other oil and gas stocks performed poorly, with PVC and PVB declining. PGS inched up 0.3% at VND33,500 per share after hitting the ceiling prices for two sessions in a row.

Foreign investors still made dismal transactions, net buying just VND18.7 billion of shares on the northern bourse.

They net purchased VND8.8 billion of shares in construction firm VCG and VND7.9 billion of securities firm SHS. Meanwhile, they net sold over VND1 billion of SHB shares.
