Hanoi to display fireworks to ring in Lunar New Year

The government of Hanoi City will display fireworks at 30 locations on Lunar New Year’s Eve, according to local news reports.

Nine fireworks shows at high altitude will take place at Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Khanh Lake, Hoang Cau Lake, Thong Nhat Park, Lac Long Quan Flower Garden, Van Quan Lake in Ha Dong District, Thanh Tich Park in My Dinh Sport Complex in Nam Tu Liem District, Vinhomes Riverside Ecological Urban Area in Long Bien District, and Son Tay Ancient Citadel. The other displays will be at low altitude.

Down to the south, HCMC will also put on fireworks shows to welcome the Lunar New Year (Tet), which begins on February 16 this year. Six display venues on Lunar New Year’s Eve are the Saigon River Tunnel linking districts 1 and 2, Dam Sen Park in District 11, Cu Chi Tunnels in Cu Chi District, Rung Sac Square in the coastal district of Can Gio, Lang Le – Bau Co historic relic in Binh Chanh District and Nga Ba Giong Martyrs Monument in Hoc Mon District.

Last year, major cities, including HCMC, Hanoi and Danang, scrapped their fireworks displays following the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat’s request for austerity. Provinces and cities were asked to use money planned for fireworks displays to help the underprivileged, especially those seriously affected by natural disasters.
