On the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8), most vendors at major flower markets in HCMC are busy stocking up on large volumes of fresh flowers to meet strong demand.

Located in District 10, Ho Thi Ky, the city’s biggest flower market, has in recent days seen massive arrivals of fresh flowers, mostly from the Central Highlands city of Dalat and some Mekong Delta provinces.

Tran Tuyet Nga, who has more than 10 years trading in flowers at Ho Thi Ky market, told the Daily on March 7 that Dalat-grown roses are best-sellers on the occasion, with prices ranging from VND180,000 (US$6.58) to VND300,000 per bunch of 50 fresh flowers, much higher than on normal days.

Customers can also find paper roses at VND90,000 per item but this product is in low demand.

Apart from fresh flowers, the market features baskets and vases made from bamboo or ceramics as well as flower arranging services
