HCMC – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has urged Nghe An to double its economic size by 2025 to become a high-income province in the central region.

Speaking at the 10th annual meeting with investors in Nghe An Province last Friday, he said Nghe An should make the most of its competitive advantages.

Nghe An should actively team up with neighboring and other provinces and cities such as Hanoi City, Lam Dong Province, Binh Duong Province and HCMC to develop its economy, the Government leader said.

He stressed industry and services play a more important role in the provincial economy but the province should also grow agriculture with a focus on organic and hi-tech farming. The province needs to create favorable conditions for the private sector to get involved in various sectors, including infrastructure at industrial parks, seaports and airports.

He underscored the need for Nghe An to improve the quality of education and adopt policies aimed at drawing investments into high-quality universities and vocational schools in the fields of information technology, biotechnology, new material and mechanical engineering.

Nghe An should build a dynamic, action-oriented and open-minded government and make strong commitments with investors by heeding their voices in a timely manner, he noted.

To back Nghe An to grow, he requested ministries and agencies to propose policies and mechanisms for linking the north-central and central economic regions, including Nghe An, to mobilize available resources and improve the business and investment environment.

At the conference, PM Phuc witnessed Nghe An presenting investment certificates to nine projects, and signing 16 memorandums of understanding on investment projects worth over VND13 trillion (US$571 million).

He told investors to realize their commitments, help boost economic growth, protect the environment, and guarantee the rights and interests of their employees.

The province’s chairman Nguyen Xuan Duong said the province has lured 980 projects capitalized at VND276 trillion, including 53 foreign-invested projects worth over VND163 trillion since 2009.

The province is striving to improve its investment environment and raise its provincial competitiveness index so that Nghe An will become a better place for investors, Duong added.
