HCMC - Singapore property firm Keppel Land will develop the Saigon Sport City project on 64 hectares in District 2, HCMC into a full-fledged smart city with state-of-the-art facilities for residents, heard a meeting between the company and the city government.

At a meeting with HCMC chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong on the Saigon Sport City project on April 4, Loh Chin Hua, chief executive officer and executive director of Keppel Corporation, and executive chairman of Keppel Land, said Saigon Sport City is a key project of the corporation due to its large scale and the participation of many units of the corporation including the urban development solution unit.

Loh Chin Hua said Keppel Land plans to cooperate with technological firms worldwide such as Microsoft to develop Saigon Sport City into a typical smart urban area in HCMC, and apply smart technology administration solutions in security, trade and energy and green solutions in urban development.

City chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong urged the company to promptly complete a detailed plan to implement the project in line with the city’s planning, and enhance its connectivity with Rach Chiec National Sports Complex to help the city host the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31).

Loh Chin Hua also briefed Phong on the progress of the large-scale Saigon Centre mixed-use complex in District 1. He said that after completion of three phases, the complex’s commercial area is full while 90% of office space has tenants and serviced apartments are in high demand.

The company will implement phases 4 and 5 of the project soon to make it an architectural landmark with high added value in the downtown area.

Phong said he expected the company to get involved in a project to develop HCMC into a smart city, initially a project to develop a highly-interactive urban hub connecting districts 2 and 9.

The city committed to improving the investment environment, creating favorable conditions for foreign investors including those from Singapore like Keppel Land to support their long-term operation in the city.
