The National Library of Vietnam under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold the Book Festival 2018 in Hanoi from April 19 to 22 to mark the Vietnam Book Day (April 21) and the World Book and Copyright Day (April 23).

Themed “Books-Knowledge Creates the Future,” the festival aims to honor the role of books in society, and introduce readers to the authors and people engaging in the book publishing industry. The event is also aimed to encourage the spirit of reading among the community, according to news website Vietnamplus.

As part of the festival, the “Books-Knowledge Creates the Future” exhibition will introduce documents on the significance of books, information about famous scientists and inventions that have changed the world, and effective reading, studying and researching methods.

For the first time, the Vietnam Publishers Association will host a ceremony for the National Book Awards, which saw the competition among hundreds of books by many publishing houses across the country.  The awards will include “The Best Book” and “The Most Decorative Book” across a vast range of topics including books related to politics, education and training, natural science and technology, social science and humanity, culture and arts, literature and children.

The event will also feature talks by researchers and writers, a painting contest themed “Hanoi in My Eyes”, a storytelling competition in Vietnamese and English, and a contest on guessing book titles.

At the book festival, the organizers will receive donations for libraries in remote areas.
