HCMC – Toll collection on provincial road DT 830 linking Long An Province’s Duc Hoa District and HCMC’s Tran Van Giau Street will start this Sunday after it has been widened to four lanes.

Nguyen Van Cuong, director of Bang Duong Investment-Construction-Trading Co., Ltd, which has upgraded the road, said toll collection will be piloted in 30 days before it is made official.

According to Cuong, toll rates, which are being considered by Long An Province, may range from VND30,000 to VND160,000 per time depending on types of vehicle. Local road users, who are not transport businesses, will be free from tolls.

Cuong said the expansion of DT 830 helps facilitate goods transport from industrial parks in Long An to Hiep Phuoc port in HCMC. Before the road was expanded, vehicles would have to use Provincial Road 10 of HCMC, which is longer and can be used by trucks in certain hours.

After the Ministry had decided not to apply build-operate-transfer (BOT) investment to old roads, a representative of the Long An Department of Transport told the Daily that DT 830 is not the single route. Road users can choose to travel on an alternative road called DT 816, which runs in parallel with DT 830, if they do not want to pay tolls.

Long An Province approved the expansion of DT 830 and a section of DT 824 in 2016 with total capital of VND1.079 trillion. The total length is 24 kilometers, and the project also builds eight new bridges.
