HCMC – The Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission has proposed the Politburo expel Dinh La Thang, member of the Party Central Committee and deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, from the Party, according to local media.

If the proposal is approved, this would be the heaviest punishment for a Party member. Thang has been suspended from all Party activities, and from the post of deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission.

Thang is involved in two serious economic cases. He was charged with deliberately violating State regulations on economic management and causing losses of VND800 billion (US$35.1 million) for Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN).

Thang was sentenced to 13 years in prison for violating State regulations on economic management causing serious consequences. In the second case involving PVN’s lost investment of VND800 billion in OceanBank, the Hanoi People’s Court handed down a jail term of 18 years on him and asked him to compensate VND600 billion for PVN.
