HCMC – The fourth International Day of Yoga will officially take place in HCMC on June 23, attracting an estimated 500 participants, Consul General of India in HCMC Dr. K. Srikar Reddy said at a press conference held on June 11.

The event will feature a yoga performance hosted by an Indian yoga master and various classical Indian dance performances. The International Day of Yoga 2018 is free of charge and open to people of all age groups.

The Consulate General of India in HCMC in collaboration with local authorities will organize the International Day of Yoga event in seven provinces and cities in southern Vietnam to open up opportunities for yoga enthusiasts to practice yoga.

Yoga harmonizes mind and body, as well as thought and action, and it improves one’s health and well-being, said Dr. Reddy, adding that yoga also helps eradicate diseases and medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and stress.

The Consul General noted that the number of people practicing yoga in Vietnam has risen sharply.

The Union European General Assembly, a membership of 193 nations, on December 11, 2014, passed a proposal by 177 countries for the adoption of June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
