Vietnam Airlines takes litchis on board

HCMC – National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has been serving litchis as a dessert to its passengers on domestic and international flights departing from Hanoi City since June 15, airline officials said.

The carrier will be supplied with litchis within 15-20 days, for a total volume of 2,000 kilograms.

To ensure food quality and safety, Vietnam Airlines has set strict requirements on the origins of the litchis. Litchis being served to passengers must originate from Luc Ngan in Bac Giang Province and must be in full compliance with VietGAP standards.

Before being added to the supply chain, litchis must undergo a three-step appraisal and a host of processes, including harvesting the litchis in the early morning, dipping them into cold water at a temperature of two to four degrees Celsius for two minutes, classifying them and then packaging them.

After being transported to NoiBai Catering Services, the litchis are classified by type, then sterilized and kept cold. This process is considered the most important to ensure passengers on Vietnam Airlines flights receive high-quality litchis.

The airline also intends to serve other local delicacies, such as longan, on its flights in the coming time to diversify its menus.
