More than 1,200 people participated in a yoga protocol at the Indoor Athletics Palace in Hanoi’s Nam Tu Liem District last Saturday as part of the Fourth International Yoga Day, the Vietnam News Agency reports.

Addressing the event, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Parvathaneni Harish said Yoga has become more popular worldwide since the United Nations General Assembly chose June 21 as the International Yoga Day following the proposal of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Yoga has been a key element contributing to the friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and India, he said, adding that he has witnessed the increasing popularity of yoga in Vietnam in the past two years.

The Fourth International Yoga Day was jointly held by the Embassy of India in Hanoi, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People’s Committee of Hanoi, with an aim to improve health and life quality of Vietnamese people.

The event will continue in 11 other cities and provinces across the country such as HCMC, Thanh Hoa, Dong Nai and Dak Lak until July 15.
