Hanoi Social Club to hold Limited Edition Tradition 4

The Saigon Times Daily

HCMC - The Hanoi Social Club will host the Limited Edition Tradition 4 featuring world traditions, story-telling through music and indigenous instruments from Vietnam and abroad in Hanoi on July 26, 2018, starting at 8:30 p.m.

Limited Edition Tradition, the newest event from the Hanoi Social Club, is a monthly exploration of global sounds with guest musicians from Vietnam’s Cao Bang and Pleiku, Africa, the Middle East and other regions.

Each month brings a different flavor, a new eye-opening style of the communication of emotions connected to the history of people across the world, with a variety of instruments such as guimbri, oud, ty ba (Vietnamese traditional plucked string instrument), doumbrek, tam thap luc (hammered dulcimer with 36 metal strings) and hand percussions.

The previous session presented Minh Duong, a musician-lecturer at the Military University of Culture and Arts, playing traditional air instruments such as the Hmong flute and dan moi (lip musical instrument).

Limited Edition Tradition 4 will welcome Tih Ro Cham from the Jarai minority in the Central Highlands city of Pleiku. Tih is a multi-instrumentalist who will be bringing with him dan k’ni – like a violin – which has its pitch adjusted by resonant-cavity mouth movements.

There will be other regular musicians from around Vietnam and the globe playing songs that come from the Gnawa culture of northern Africa. The line-up includes Amine Canamine, Ha Dinh Huy, David Payne, Thai Ha Dam, Minh Duong and Moshen Abdullah.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for VND100,000 per person at the Hanoi Social Club, 6 Hoi Vu Street, Hanoi, or at the door on the night.
