HCMC - From August 17 to 19, thirteen traditional craft villages from Hanoi and six others from Quang Nam Province will take part in a fair at the An Hoi Sculpture Garden in Hoi An City to introduce their crafts and latest products.

The fair is part of the Japanese Culture Days in Quang Nam and the 16th Hoi An – Japan Cultural Exchange, according to Nhan Dan newspaper.

The events are jointly held by the Quang Nam Tourism Promotion and Information Center, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Quang Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, and the Hanoi Tourism, Trade and Investment Promotion Center.

Participating villages from Hanoi will introduce pottery, silk, lacquer, encrusted oyster shell, gilded gold, sculpture, rattan and bamboo products while traditional craft villages from Quang Nam will exhibit brocade, silk, aloe wood, and silver and gold jewelry items.

The fair aims to honor and promote the development of traditional craft villages in Hanoi and Quang Nam and offer artisans an opportunity to share experience and build business links.

In addition to the domestic market, craft villages export their products to more than 130 countries worldwide. However, such villages are fading away and many artisans are finding it hard to stick with their jobs.

Therefore, traditional craft fairs such as the upcoming event in Hoi An are needed for the preservation of traditional crafts.
